Cancer of the ovary affects more than 6,500 women in the UK each year. Ovarian cancer can affect women of any age and even though most ovarian cancers are due to gene changes that develop during a woman’s life there is a 10% possibility of it being caused by an inherited faulty gene. As the symptoms of ovarian cancer can be similar to those of other conditions, it can often be difficult to recognise. World Ovarian Cancer Day on May 8th provides an opportunity to raise awareness about the disease, the symptoms and diagnostic options.
